Beyond the Game

A youth mental wellness and leadership program of Youth Texas Teams and Society of Royals.

Building Champions for Life

Beyond the Game is a long-term mentorship and youth development program designed for student-athletes beginning at age 8 and continuing through high school graduation, generally around age 18.

The program connects young athletes with college students, former athletes, coaches, and adults with sports backgrounds who provide consistent mentorship, guidance, and encouragement throughout their developmental years.

Beyond the Game combines mentorship, professional mental health services, financial literacy, life skills education, leadership development, and educational experiences to help young athletes prepare for success in sports, school, relationships, careers, and adulthood.

Our Approach

Beyond the Game recognizes that young athletes need more than athletic training to prepare for their future.

They need positive role models, healthy relationships, emotional support, financial knowledge, practical life skills, and opportunities to experience the world beyond their communities.

The program provides a structured mentorship experience that grows with participants from childhood through high school graduation.

Our approach focuses on:

What Participants Experience

Long-Term Mentorship

Each participant is matched with a mentor who has experience participating in organized sports. Mentors may include college athletes, former student-athletes, coaches, and adults who understand the importance of discipline, teamwork, perseverance, and personal growth.

Mentors do not have to be professional athletes. Their role is to provide consistent guidance, encouragement, accountability, and positive support throughout the participant’s development.

The mentorship experience includes:

Mentors complete screening and training requirements, and all interactions follow established youth safety guidelines.

Mental Wellness & Professional Therapy

Mental wellness is an essential part of the Beyond the Game experience.

Each participant will have access to 12 free therapy sessions annually, including six individual sessions and six group sessions provided by licensed mental health professionals.

These services support participants as they navigate emotional challenges, school responsibilities, athletic pressure, relationships, and personal development.

Participants explore:

The curriculum combines mentor-guided discussions, practical assignments, and real-world learning activities.

Financial Literacy

Beyond the Game introduces financial education at an early age and expands participants’ financial knowledge as they grow.

Young athletes learn how to make responsible financial decisions, understand the value of money, and prepare for future financial responsibilities.

Participants explore:

The program helps participants connect financial knowledge to everyday decisions, college planning, career opportunities, and adult responsibilities.

Leadership & Character Development

Beyond the Game helps participants recognize how these qualities can influence their decisions, relationships, education, and future opportunities.

Participants develop skills related to:

Through mentorship and community engagement, young athletes are encouraged to become positive influences within their schools, teams, families, and communities.

Educational Travel & Cultural Experiences

The experience is designed to introduce young athletes to new environments, educational institutions, career opportunities, and cultural experiences outside their home communities.

Travel experiences may include:

These experiences help participants expand their perspectives, develop independence, and discover opportunities beyond their familiar surroundings.

College, Career & Life Beyond Sports

Not every young athlete will pursue competitive sports beyond high school. Beyond the Game helps participants understand that the discipline, teamwork, communication, and leadership skills developed through athletics can support success in many different career paths.

As participants approach graduation, they receive guidance related to:

The program encourages participants to identify their strengths, explore their interests, and develop a plan for their future.

From Athlete to Mentor

One of the most important goals of Beyond the Game is to create a continuous cycle of mentorship.

Participants begin their journey as young athletes receiving guidance from individuals who understand the lessons and experiences that come from sports.

As they grow, they develop the confidence, knowledge, and leadership skills needed to guide others.

Upon graduating from high school, participants are encouraged to return as college students or young adults to become mentors for the next generation of eight-year-old athletes.

Returning graduates who meet program screening and training requirements can help young athletes navigate the same journey they once experienced.

This approach creates opportunities for former participants to give back, strengthen their communities, and continue the legacy of mentorship.

Who We Serve

Beyond the Game is designed for student-athletes who enter the program at approximately age 8 and continue through high school graduation.

Our Vision

Youth Texas Teams believes every young athlete deserves access to positive role models, mental wellness support, financial education, life skills, and opportunities that prepare them for a successful future.

Beyond the Game is built on the belief that mentorship should extend beyond a single season, school year, or athletic experience.

By investing in young athletes throughout their developmental years, we aim to build lasting relationships, strengthen families, encourage personal growth, and prepare young people to become confident and responsible adults.

Our vision is to see participants graduate from high school prepared for their next chapter and inspired to return as mentors who help guide the next generation.

Today’s Athletes. Tomorrow’s Leaders. Future Mentors.
